Leverkusen (dpa) – Hannes Wolf conducted his first training session Wednesday as Bayer Leverkusen coach with a depleted squad, owing to the international break.
Wolf, 39, had only 14 first-team players, plus seven juniors, at his disposal the day after replacing Peter Bosz at the struggling Bundesliga club.
Wolf, who is officially German under-18 national team coach and in the past was in charge at VfB Stuttgart and SV Hamburg,, has a deal until the end of the season but Leverkusen officials have not ruled out a longer engagement.
He is to get Leverkusen back on track after just four wins in their last 17 official games, a drop in the Bundesliga from first to sixth over the past three months, and exits from the German Cup and Europa League.
They are seven points away from the Champions League berth and at least want to keep the Europa League slot they currently occupy.
