Leipzig expect strong Bayern team even if Lewandowski is sidelined

RB Leipzig don’t expect champions Bayern Munich to be much weaker should star striker Robert Lewandowski not be fit to play in their Bundesliga topper on Saturday.

“Bayern will field a competitive team even without Lewandowski,” sports director Markus Kroesche told Tuesday’s Bild paper.

“You don’t want this to happen to anyone but we are concentrating on ourselves.”

Lewandowski, the Bundesliga top scorer with 35 goals, injured a knee ligament in Poland’s World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Sunday and will be out of action for 5 to 10 days, making his participation Saturday unlikely.

He is to undergo further examinations on Tuesday in Munich.

Bayern top the table four points ahead of Leipzig and with a victory would take a big step towards a ninth straight title.
