Frankfurt coach says Monday fan boycott will be new experience

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Adi Huetter says a boycott by many home fans over scheduling their Bundesliga clash against Union Berlin for this Monday will be a new experience for him.

Frankfurt fans will leave the standing areas empty, the latest in a round of protests across the Bundesliga over Monday matches. The league has already said it will scrap Monday games from the 2021/22 season.

“I don’t remember ever having had such a situation. We have to deal with this situation positively,” Huetter told a news conference on Sunday.

“We respect and accept this decision, which the entire club supports.”

Frankfurt, who beat Salzburg 4-1 at home in their Europa League last 32 first leg on Thursday, again look set to be without injured forward Bas Dost but midfielder Mijat Gacinovic may return against Union following illness.
