Leipzig, Germany (dpa) – A cargo aircraft of the German armed forces brought more than 10 million face masks from China to Germany on Monday for the fight against the novel coronavirus.
The masks, which arrived in the eastern city of Leipzig, will now be distributed in different German states, Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said.
The shipment was part of a total of 25 million masks that are to be delivered.
Spot tests are being conducted on the masks before they leave China and after they arrive in Germany to check that they are functional.
All German states will this week start requiring people to cover their noses and mouths in certain public places. This can be done not just with masks, but also scarves and cloths.
