WWII explosive discovered during clearance of flat in Hamburg

Hamburg (dpa) – A highly dangerous explosive from World War II was discovered when a flat was being cleared in the northern German port city of Hamburg.

The object was discovered in a garage on Saturday, the police said on Sunday.

The fire brigade confirmed on Twitter that the object was an unstable and highly dangerous anti-aircraft grenade detonator with an explosive device.

Since the relic of the war could not be defused at the scene, the police closed an adjacent park and had the bomb disposal sqad carry out a controlled explosion.

Nobody was injured in the operation.
