DOSB leaders back president Hoermann after critical open letter

German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) leaders have rallied behind president Alfons Hoermann after he was the subject of harsh criticism in an open letter allegedly sent by DOSB staff.

“As the DOSB board we clearly reject the criticism on our preisdent Alfons Hoermann,” a statement on Friday said, naming the cooperation between Hoermann and the board “very constructive, professional and fair.”

«From our perspective we cannot see any behavior that – as assumed in the open letter – ‘lacks any form of respect and decency.'”

The DOSB presidium also backed Hoermann, saying: “We express our unreserved trust and our full support to our President Alfons Hörmann, at the same time we will take the allegations seriously in an intensive exchange with the employees.”

The DOSB had confirmed on Thursday it received a letter, sent from a fake account, allegedly from a larger group of DOSB staff who spoke of “a culture of fear” within the DOSB, criticised Hoermann’s leadership and cited a lack of respect and fair play from the leaders.
