Dortmund chief Watzke confident of fan return next season

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke believes fans will return to Bundesliga stadiums next season but admitted full houses remain in doubt amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“I definitely count on fans being in the stadium in the coming season,” he told the Funke media group on Tuesday. “The question is only how many are allowed to come.

“Thirty per cent of people have been vaccinated once, they will also have the second vaccine by then. You can no longer deny everything to these people.

“They have be able to experience normality again.”

Union Berlin have been given permission to have 2,000 fans at their Bundesliga finale at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday due to sinking coronavirus infection numbers in the capital.

But other cities, including Dortmund, are not yet at a level which permits fans to attend games.
