Large police operation combs German hotel after weapon found

A police investigation launched on Friday following the discovery of a weapon in a Dusseldorf hotel was continuing on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said on Saturday morning that most of the police had left the scene in the west German city. “The measures at the hotel have been largely completed,” he said.

The spokesperson did not initially provide further details on the state of the investigation or about a man who was arrested after a firearm was discovered in a room of the hotel in Dusseldorf’s Oberbilk district on Friday.

Several police tactical units (SEK) arrived and combed the evacuated building. The police officers found “at least one” suspicious suitcase, which was being examined by explosives experts, it was said on Friday.

The individual taken into custody, who is believed to have had the weapon, “has not yet been seen by the police,” according to the spokesperson on Friday.

The police spokesperson gave no further details on Saturday morning.
