Electricity price goes down for Karachi with a caveat

Karachi (HRNW) National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved to reduce the per-unit price of electricity by Rs2.59 for the consumers of Karachi.  However, there is a caveat involved.

Electricity prices have been reduced by Rs2.59 per unit on account of fuel price adjustment for the month of December and the charges will be adjusted in the bill for the month of March, according to a notification from Nepra.

However, the decision will apply to consumers using 300 and above units of electricity and agricultural consumers. It will effectively leave out a large number of consumers, who were charged extra tariff on the account of fuel price hike.

Nepra stated that K-Electric had requested a reduction in the price of electricity by Rs1.80 on which the authority held a public hearing on February 2, 2022
