Islamabad (HRNW) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified on Friday PTI chief Imran Khan in Toshakhana reference.
The PTI chief has been disqualified from holding public office.
Former prime minister Imran Khan, who recently won by-elections from six National Assembly seats on last Sunday, will no longer be able to retain any of his seats including NA-95 Mianwali that he currently retains.
The commission said that Imran Khan has been found guilty of corrupt practices.
He has been disqualified under 163-P. This, however, is not a lifetime disqualification.
As the ECP announced the verdict, security in and around the commission was tightened.
The main entrance of the building was locked and, police, rangers and FC personnel were deputed to deal with any untoward situation.
The ECP had reserved its verdict on September 19.
The then-Prime Minister Imran Khan had retained gifts from the Toshakhana between 2018 and 2022 but failed to declare some of them in his annual statements of assets submitted before the ECP.
Under the law and rules, lawmakers are required to declare their assets with the ECP every year.
Multiple references were filed against Imran Khan after it emerged that he retained some of the Toshakhan gifts to sell them on the market.
