Apex Committee formed on the issue of revival of student union in Sindh

KARACHI (HRNW) A 10-member apex committee consisting of vice-chancellors has been established on the issue of restoration and implementation of student unions in public universities of Sindh.
Vice chancellors of general universities, medical and engineering universities established in the public sector in Sindh have been included in the committee.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister for Universities and Boards Ismail Rahu in which the Vice Chancellors participated.
In the meeting, most of the vice-chancellors opposed the restoration of the students’ union to the old style, and presented the model of societies. Provincial Minister Ismail Rahu emphasized that the restoration of the Union should be on the same pattern as the past.
It was decided in the meeting that the vice chancellors of all government universities should send their recommendations which will be handed over to the 10-member apex committee. This Apex Committee will formulate its recommendations in the light of the Students Union Act 2022 which will also be sent to the Law Department for voting.
