Rana Sanaullah likely to be removed as PML-N Punjab President

ISLAMABAD:  (HRNW) The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders are displeased over interior minister Rana Sanaullah after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly, sources revealed to media.

Rana Sanaullah, who is also PML-N President, is being blamed for the dissolution of the provincial assembly and the vote of confidence by Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Elahi managed to retain the chief minister slot after securing the vote of confidence in a dramatic late-night session of the Punjab Assembly. The PTI and PML-N alliance managed to secure the required 186 votes as the PML-N walked out of the session.

Rana Sanaullah and PML-N’s Attaullah Tarar were present during the session and looked on with disappointment as the coalition secured the votes. Elahi went on to dissolve the assembly a few days later and paved way for the next elections.

According to well-placed sources, the PML-N is displeased with Rana Sanaullah and has sought his removal as PML-N Punjab President.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has summoned a consultative meeting of the party in London where important decisions are expected. Rana Sanaullah and other leaders are expected to visit London this week to attend the meeting.

The meeting will also discuss holding the Punjab Assembly elections within three months. It will ponder the political situation in the province and formulate strategy for the next election.

It was earlier reported that former prime minister Nawaz has summoned Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan to London.

Sources revealed the PML-N leader has expressed his annoyance over the loss caused to the party due to the recent political situation in Punjab. Rana Sanaullah is expected to be given important tasks regarding the political situation.

The sources further added that matters related to the return of former premier and his daughter Maryam Nawaz and court cases pending against them will also be discussed.

The sources said that after the defeat in the Punjab Assembly recently, Nawaz has refused to return to Pakistan immediately.

However, Maryam Nawaz is expected to return at the month end and re-organise the party. Nawaz has already instructed his party leaders to prepare for general elections and mobilize workers.
