Imran says Sri Lanka-like situation may happen, if timely polls not held

LAHORE: (HRNW) Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said Sri Lanka-like circumstances might emerge in Pakistan, if the government did not hold timely elections.

In an interview with BBC, Imran Khan said the economic crisis could be dealt through free and fair elections only. He said the economic crisis would exacerbate, if the ruling government stayed more in the power.

“If elections are not held soon then we will go into the masses and hold rallies and protests. This is the way of political parties,” he said.

He said the coalition parties had no case to disqualify him. They were filing new references against him every other day, so that they could disqualify him, he said.

“I am appearing before courts to fight all the cases,” he said.

When Imran Khan was asked, who would run the party, if he was disqualified, he replied that he would take a decision only when such a situation would emerge.

He said even if he did not consider himself safe, but there was no question that he would stay at home.
