Punjab Governor will face treason charges if election date not announced: Fawad

LAHORE: (HRNW) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said the people of Lahore have rejected the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.

Addressing a press conference along with PTI leader Hammad Azhar, the former federal minister regretted that higher authorities and the government are not concerned about Pakistan, but rather focused on removing Imran Khan from their way.

“Lahore has rejected the appointment of the caretaker chief minister Punjab CM. The real faces are hidden behind Mohsin Naqvi. There is only one agenda to remove Imran Khan,” Fawad said.

The PTI leader said the way the parliament is running is shameful and an incompetent cabinet has been imposed on the country. He said the only purpose of returning to the National Assembly was to remove the so-called Leader of Opposition Raja Riaz.

He slammed the approval of more PTI MNAs’ resignations, saying the National Assembly Secretariat was closed for three days and finally their resignations have been accepted.

He warned that the caretaker government is for a limited time and the PTI will pursue them until they are penalized.

“Chief Election commissioner is signing the resignations like a clerk. He was instructed to appoint Mohsin Naqvi. We will follow them until they get receive an exemplary punishment” he added.

He urged the judiciary to take action against the constitutional violations. He said the judiciary has also a role in the current political crisis and should take action.

Fawad announced that PTI will approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan to file a petition against the caretaker chief minister of Punjab. He said that PTI has submitted a request to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to not appoint those figures who were involved in May 25 incident.

He said around 40 percent of National Assembly seats and 65 percent seats in the provincial assemblies are vacant. He urged the judiciary to play its role as the political crisis was created after the imposition of an incompetent cabinet.

He said Governor Punjab is violating the constitution by not giving the election date. “If Governor Punjab does not give election date, he faces proceeding under Article 6,” he added. He reiterated holding immediate elections to end the political crisis.
