Peshawar mosque blast toll hits 44 as TTP claims responsibility

Peshawar (HRNW) A suicide bomber blew himself during Namza-e-Zuhr congregation at a mosque near Police Lines in Peshawar on Monday, leaving at least 44 people and more than 150 injured.

Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) spokesperson has confirmed the number of casualties whereas on the other hand, the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the blast at a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines.

According to details, security officials claim that the suicide bomber was present in the front row during the prayers when he detonated himself, hurting numerous devoted people who were praying the Zuhr.

The roof of the mosque collapsed after the blast, due to which injured people were stuck under the rubble. The Rescue teams are still taking out the people from the rubble and shifting them to hospitals.

Emergency has been imposed in all the hospitals of Peshawar. Security forces have cordoned off the area. The injured were taken to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital.

As the rescue operation at Peshawar Police Line’s mosque continues following a bomb blast, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reached here to get a briefing as well as inquire after those injured in the terrorist incident.

During the visit, the prime minister would be briefed in detail on all aspects of the tragic incident.

He was accompanied by Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

Earlier, the prime minister, also the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, urged the party workers to donate blood to save lives of the injured people.

He said the people, students, and party workers with the O-Negative blood group should immediately reach the Lady Reading Hospital of Peshawar to play their part in saving human lives.
