Lyari hospital confirms death of three minor rape victims

KARACHI: (HRNW) The Medical Superintendent of Lyari General Hospital has confirmed reports about the rape and death of girls at the hospital.

MS Lyari General Hospital has submitted the report to the Health Department confirming the death and rape of three minor girls at a ward set up by a private company, Child Life Foundation.

District City Police had tried to disprove the news about the girl’s death. Police conducted an inquiry and said the reports about the rape and death of girls at the hospital were fake.

SSP South Shabbir Ahmed Sethar stated that the hospital administration or parents of the girls had not contacted police. He claimed that the parents of one of the girl said their daughter had died of ill health.

He added that Kalakot SDPO Asif Munawar was appointed inquiry officer, who looked into the matter and found the reports to be untrue.

However, the report submitted by the hospital administration has dispelled the police inquiry and confirmed the death of three girls, due to the lack of a medico-legal officer (MLO) at the hospital.

The report said five girls were brought to the hospital in critical condition within twenty days, while three girls died during treatment.

The girls were shifted to the ward established by the Child Life Foundation. Four girls were brought from Lyari while one was brought from Baldia. Two girls were discharged from the hospital after initial treatment, the report added.

The report said the post-mortem of the deceased girls was not conducted to ascertain the actual cause of death, and difficulties arose due to the absence of an MLO.

The girls were aged from two to fourteen years old. Sources revealed the girls were covered in blood when they were brought to the hospital.

A two-year-old rape victim was brought to the hospital on January 18. The hospital administration returned the body without any action, sources said.

Another 3-year-old girl was brought on January 23, and a 10-year-old girl was brought on January 24. All three girls died at the hospital before being provided treatment. Furthermore, a 12-year-old girl was brought on January 12 while the 14-year-old girl was brought on January 24.
