Writ petition filed to stop cases filed on political basis against Imran

LAHORE:  (HRNW) The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) the government’s political cases against PTI chief Imran Khan which were putting his life in danger.

The petition is filed by a legal team of the PTI which includes Barrister Salman Safdar, Intizar Hussain Panjotha, Muhammad bin Mohsin, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, Mazhar Ali Haider, Barrister Abdullah Khan and Muhammad Abdullah. The plea is filed under Article 199 of the Constitution.

The petition has sought to stop the abundance of cases, filed on political grounds, to protect fundamental rights of the former prime minister.

The plea has sought fool-proof security for the PTI chief and strict action against those responsible of failure to ensure peaceful environment during his appearances in courts.

Viewing the serious life threats to Khan, he should be allowed to mark attendance through video link or advance sources for protection of the public and court staff as well.

The federation, federal secretary law and justice, additional chief secretary Punjab, IG Punjab, IG Islamabad, IG Motorways, defence secretary and home secretaries of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been made parties in the case.

It said Imran Khan was an honorable citizen and former prime minister of the country and he had been targeted in a grave assassination attack. “The lethal attack badly injured Imran Khan,” it maintained adding that once more attempts were being made to make him victim of one such attack.

The application said the cases filed on political basis were also linked with the same. So far, 76 cases have been filed against the PTI chief on political basis.

Copies of the cases, Imran Khan’s letter to the chief justice of Pakistan and letters of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and General Secretary Asad Umar were also attached with the petition.
