UO celebrates feats in research and ranking

Okara (HRNW) A grand ceremony to commemorate the University of Okara’s feats in research and international ranking was organized by the Quality Enhancement Cell (CELL) under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad.
Prof Dr Zakria Zakar, the former VC of UO and current incumbent at the University of Poonch Rawalakot, was the Chief Guest of the event. The other dignitaries included VC, Government College University Faisalabad, Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, VC, University of Sahiwal, Prof Dr Javaid Akhtar, VC, Emerson University Multan, Prof Dr Muhammad Ramzan, Dean Faculty of Information and Media Studies at University of the Punjab, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Prof Dr Azhar Naeem from PU, Dr Israr Chisti from PU, Dr Khalid from PU and Waqar Chaudhary, Former Country Head at APP.
The high achievers in research including Dr Arshad Kamran, Dr Ghulm Mustafa, Dr Amjad Ali, Dr Maryam Liaqat and Dr Hamood-u-Rehman were awarded appreciation shields. Dr Syed Abul Waheed was also acknowledged for his contribution to publish the first research journal of the UO.
The Director QEC, Dr Arshad Kamran, welcomed the guests in the opening note and thanked the former VC, Prof Zakar and his current incumbent, Prof Sajid, for their unrelenting support and commitment for perking up the ranking and research spectrum of the university.
Prof Sajid paid tribute to Prof Zakar for his services to the UO. Talking about the promotion of research culture, he said, “We have to emphasize on applied research. Every faculty member should carve out research plan for next five years.”
He further told, “We need to harness the inherent talent of students. Universities are not meant for awarding degrees merely, rather they should focus on imparting professional training to the students.”
Prof Zakar, in his address, applauded the academic, gender and intellectual diversity of UO. He regarded Prof Sajid as an energetic, visionary and capable administrator.
“The UO will caste far-reaching impacts on the culture of this region. The real mandate of a university is to work for the socio-economic development.”
The VC, Chief Guests and all other guests also did plantation at the campus.
