Police Say Driver Involved In Thatta Accident Arrested

KARACHI: (HRNW) The Karachi police on Wednesday arrested the driver of a truck involved in a road accident in Thatta, leading to the death of nine Karachi picnickers, media reported.

According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Adil Chandio, the driver Mohammad Raees had a learning driving license. He said that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the truck driver.

SSP Chandio further shared that all nine people were friends belonging to the same locality of Karachi.

The truck driver involved in the incident had fled the scene after the accident.

At least nine picnickers were killed when a vehicle they were travelling in rammed into a truck on Hyderabad-Thatta road near Chilya.

According to rescue sources, the incident occurred near Thatta’s Chilya area when a van collided with a truck, resulting in the death of nine people. Eight people died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

All of the passengers who lost their lives were residents of Karachi and were en route to the Kenjhar Lake for a picnic, said police.
