KARACHI (HRNW) Flour mills strike has started in Karachi. Supply of flour to the city stopped. 92 flour mills in the whole city were locked. The flour mill owners closed the mills for an indefinite period after negotiations with the Sindh Food Department failed. Along with the flour crisis in Karachi, there was a fear of flour prices reaching 200 rupees per kg.
Due to the failure of the negotiations between the owners of the flour mills and the food department of Sindh, the mills across Karachi were closed for an indefinite period. Flours Mills owners had given 24 hours time to Food Department Sindh to approve their demands yesterday.
Due to the failure of negotiations, the strike of flour mills in Karachi continues. Supply of flour to the city has been stopped and 92 flour mills of Shahr Qaid have been locked. Due to the crisis, the price of flour per kg in Karachi is feared to reach 200 rupees.
Chairman of Flours Mills Association Chaudhry Aamir Abdullah demanded permission to bring wheat from Sindh to Karachi and to abolish check posts. Amir Abdullah said. Even in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the customs authorities are not allowing the supply of wheat due to which there is a fear of crisis there as well.
At present mill flour is selling between 160 to 165 in Karachi. Due to the flour crisis, the price may reach up to 200 rupees per kg. The citizens have expressed concern over the strike of flour mills and shortage of flour and have demanded immediate notice from the authorities.
