Monsoon mayhem: urban flood, landslide alert issued

ISLAMABAD (HRNW) – The new spell of monsoon is likely to take place from July 31 to Aug 6.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said heavy rains might increase the flow of water in rivers, therefore, rains and flooding were likely to inundate the low-lying areas.

On the other hand, Indian dams Pong and Thane are completely filled due to which India may release water into the Ravi river.

The NDMA on Monday issued instructions to the departments concerned and said they should continue to monitor the release of water in rivers from Indian dams. The Tarbela and Mangla dams have filled more than 70 per cent of their capacity.

On the other hand, the flow of water in the Sutlej at Ganda Singh is 60,138 cusecs while in Ravi, there is a low-level flood at Head Baloki. The inflow of water at Head Baloki is 67,845 cuses while the outflow is 42,445 cusecs.
