Asif Zardari takes oath as 14th president of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (HRNW) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari took oath as 14th president of the country on Sunday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath to Asif Zardari at the President House.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, outgoing president Arif Alvi, other service chiefs, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, chief ministers and governors of all provinces, members of assemblies, and ambassadors attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Asif Zardari was elected president for the second time by securing 411 votes on Saturday. He was elected president in 2008.

PRESIDENT XI GREETS

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Asif Zardari on his election as president of Pakistan.

In his message, President Xi said China and Pakistan are good neighbours, good friends, good partners and good brothers.

He said the two countries have achieved fruitful results in the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and maintained a high level of development of bilateral relations.

The Chinese President said Beijing is ready to work with President Zardari to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries.
