Why are burn center facilities not available in Sindh sans Karachi? Asks Altaf Shakoor

KARACHI  (HRNW)  Why are burn center facilities not available in Sindh province saving Karachi, asked Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor here Sunday.

He said burn patients from all over the province are rushed to Karachi despite the fact that about half a dozen teaching hospitals are working in the province outside Karachi. He said after the recent gas cylinder blast incident in Hyderabad dozens of burn patients were rushed to Karachi, despite the fact that two medical university hospitals are present in Hyderabad and Jamshoro. He asked are the teaching hospitals in Sindh outside Karachi so substandard that they can’t treat even burn patients. He said Hyderabad is the second largest city of Sindh province and still it didn’t have a proper burn treatment centre.
Altaf Shakoor said that in fact healthcare facilities in whole Sindh are in shambles. The burns centre in Karachi is in working condition only because NGOs support it. Had it been run by the government sector its condition would not have been different from the other government run hospitals in Sindh.

He said every year billions of rupees are allocated in the budget for the healthcare sector in Sindh but most of it goes into the pockets of the notorious corruption mafia of the province. He said if these funds are used properly the healthcare sector in Sindh could be improved a lot.

Altaf Shakoor demanded that burn center facilities should be provided in whole Sindh on priority basis, besides overhauling whole government sector healthcare facilities in Sindh province. He said a proper healthcare audit system should be introduced in all government hospitals in Sindh to improve their healthcare delivery.
