Security should be ensured on Muharram, Interior Minister Sindh Zia Lanjar

Karachi  (HRNW) The Sindh Home Minister, Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, chaired a high-level meeting on July 8, 2024, to review the security arrangements for Muharram. The meeting was attended by DIGs and SSPs from across the province, who joined in person or via video link.

The Sindh Home Minister directed that all procession routes be considered sensitive and security measures be made foolproof and extraordinary. He also ordered the deployment of young police officers/personnel at police posts in sensitive areas and the transfer of officers above 45 years old to police stations.

The Home Minister emphasized the need for harmony between different sects and schools of thought and directed that all stakeholders be taken on board to ensure peace during Muharram. He also warned that legal action would be taken against individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule.

The Minister also directed that:

– Foolproof security arrangements be made for all processions and Majalis
– Roof-top deployments, sniper deployments, and bomb disposal squads be ensured
– Sweeping and clearance operations be conducted on procession routes
– Harmony be promoted between different sects and schools of thought
– Legal action be taken against individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule
– All stakeholders be taken on board to ensure peace during Muharram

The IG Sindh assured the meeting that the Sindh police was ready and alert to handle Muharram security and had already deployed additional personnel in all districts since the first of Muharram.
