26TH CONVOCATION OF KARACHI UNIVERSITY HELD

Karachi (HRNW): The 26th annual convocation of the University of Karachi was held at its campus on Saturday.The Sindh Education Minister, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, who is also the Pro-chancellor of the institution, in his presidential address said that the University of Karachi is recognized internationally as well for its high academic standard.He said that this institution is also his alma mater and that whatever he has achieved in the life today is just because of the University of Karachi.Nisar Khuhro was of the view that this very institution is a magnificent success story for the past over 65 years.

He said that all the students must take the full use of their academic credentials while serving the nation with the best of their abilities.

Khuhro called for abolishing quotas in the admission policy of Karachi University and said that open merit admissions must be ensured.

He pointed out that the Government of Sindh is spending billions of rupees in the education sector and will continue its financial support to the University of Karachi and hope that one day 50,000 students will be enrolled in this university.

Khuhro said that the graduating students of today are the leaders of tomorrow and they have a great responsibility on their shoulders to work for the prosperity and uplift of their nation in their fields.

He announced an additional salary of one month to all the grade 1 to 16 non-teaching employees of Karachi University.

Vice Chancellor KU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser said that Karachi University is one of the most prestigious centers of learning of higher education in Pakistan and it is indeed a great honor of his to welcome you all at the 26th Annual Convocation 2015 as the Vice Chancellor.

Dr. Qaiser said that the KU is a model educational institution for all the academic and educational institutions of the country which is globally recognized due to its highly efficient faculty and research output adding to those more than 35,000 students are enrolled in the varsity that includes many foreign students as well.

KU faculty consists of highly qualified and distinguished scholars who are recognized globally. 486 research papers from KU faculty members have been published in Impact Factor Journals of the world.

`During my tenure, record selection boards have been held and 116 faculty members are recruited in 27 selection boards held since last three years. Despite facing serious financial crisis, KU is on its path of progress and achieving new heights of high quality academic and academic growth’, he added.

During 2015, 204 Ph.D. and 69 M.Phil. degrees were awarded to the meritorious students. 1,124 students are enrolled in Ph.D. program while 1951 students are enrolled in M.Phil program right now.

Karachi University has awarded 3,837 Ph.D. degrees from 1958 to 2015 in the faculties of Social Sciences, Science, Islamic Studies, Law, Pharmacy, Medicine, Management and Administrative Sciences.

It has signed MoUs with various national and foreign universities in collaboration in the field of research and academics in which there are 10 foreign universities, Dr Qaiser maintained

In the Convocation, 1,866 students were awarded the degrees while 238 gold medals were awarded to the students. 163 degrees of B.A (Honors), 8 of B.E, 11 of BLIS, 133 of BS, 2 of BPA, 27 BS(CS), 20 of BBA(Honors), 179 of BSc.(Honors), 312 of MA, 42 of MBA, 35 of M.Com, 22 of MCS, 5 of MLIS, 8 of MPA, 1 of MS and DSC, 289 of MSc., 84 of Pharm-D, 16 of M.Phil, 145 of PhD while 363 degrees of evening program were awarded.

The topper of the varsity was awarded the gold medal named after the Martyrs of Army Public School Peshawar.
