German Sustainability Award goes to Greta Thunberg

The German Sustainability Award goes this year to teen climate activist Greta Thunberg.

The 16-year-old Swede was named as the winner of the special sustainability prize for her commitment to climate protection, during a ceremony in Dusseldorf.

Thunberg is currently sailing back from the United States to Europe to attend a major climate summit in Madrid.

This year’s honorary prizes went to former German president Joachim Gauck, environmental activist Paula Caballero, Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall and architect Bjarke Ingels.

Alnatura Arbeitswelt’s new building in Darmstadt received the German Sustainability Award for Architecture.

The awards were presented on Friday evening in a ceremony attended by 1,200 guests.
