German TV actor Gerd Baltus dies in Hamburg

German actor Gerd Baltus, famous for his role in several popular TV series, has died aged 87, his wife told dpa on Saturday.

Baltus, regarded as one of the busiest actors on the German TV scene, died on Friday in Hamburg, his wife said, confirming earlier media reports.

Having begun his career in theatre in Hamburg, he appeared in many popular TV shows including the detective series “Derrick” and “Tatort.”

He received a German Film Award for best young actor in 1965 for his first big film role in “Waelsungenblut.”
