Bremen new signing Vogt in hospital after collision with keeper

Werder Bremen’s new signing Kevin Vogt was stretchered off with his neck in a brace and then taken to hospital after colliding with his goalkeeper in a 1-0 win at Bundesliga relegation rivals Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday.

Jiri Pavlenka accidentally struck the 28-year-old defender on the head as he claimed a high ball.

“He is on the way to hospital. It is still speculative but it looks like concussion. We have to make sure there’s nothing wrong with his cervical vertebrae,”, Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann told Sky of the player on loan from Hoffenheim.

An unfortunate own goal from Dusseldorf reserve keeper Florian Kastenmeier, playing because Zack Steffen is injured, meant the hosts slipped to second from bottom with Bremen leapfrogging them into the relegation play-off spot.
