3 still in life-threatening condition after German tram stop accident

Three people injured after a serious accident at a tram stop in the western German city of Essen are still in a life-threatening condition.

Their condition remains unchanged, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

An 81-year-old woman drove her car into a group of people who were just getting on or off a tram at the stop in the centre of the city’s Gervinus Street on Saturday at around 5:15 pm (1615 GMT).

A total of 12 people were injured in the incident, including the 81-year-old and her passenger.

According to initial findings, police are assuming an accident, but the cause was still unclear on Sunday.

The investigation is expected to continue on Monday, a police spokesman said.
