German duo chase final day gold at track cycling worlds

Emma Hinze and Lea Sophie Friedrich are bidding to end a golden track cycling world championships for Germany with more glory at the Berlin velodrome.

Both have individual wins along with combining for team sprint victory and progressed without difficulty to the Keirin quarter-finals on the last day of competition.

Rainbow jersey holder Lee Wai Sze of Hong Kong also qualified.

The Netherlands, already topping the medal table on five golds, are guaranteed another triumph later when defending men’s sprint champion Harrie Lavreysen takes on compatriot Jeffrey Hoogland.

Poland’s Mateusz Rudyk meets Malaysia’s Mohd Azizulhasni Awang for bronze.

Later there is also the women’s points race and men’s Madison, which includes Michael Morkov after a coronavirus scare. The Dane left the UAE Tour to compete in Berlin but spent more than a day isolated in his hotel after two Italians showed symptoms of the virus in Abu Dhabi.
