Germany sending 20 more police officers and helicopter to Greece

Germany is to support the Greek authorities in protecting their border with Turkey by sending 20 police officers and a helicopter, a response to an increasing flow of migrants seeking to enter the European Union.

The officers, from the German Federal Police, are to support the EU’s Frontex border force, according to the German Interior Ministry.

Two German officers have been checking locations on the Greek islands since Tuesday to see whether technical assistance can be provided to the Greek authorities in erecting winter accommodation and laying on water supplies.

The additional officers are to join 60 colleagues already deployed to Frontex in Greece.
