First flight of Romanian harvest helpers lands in Berlin

The first flight carrying Romanian seasonal workers to assist with spring harvests in Germany has arrived at Berlin Schoenefeld Airport.

Two more flights are expected later in the day, according to an airport spokeswoman, with a total of some 530 workers expected on Thursday. The workers will undergo a medical inspection at the airport for detecting signs of the novel coronavirus.

A further two flights, also from Romania, are expected to land at Dusseldorf Airport during the course of the day.

The flights have been chartered by agricultural companies and are aimed at bringing in workers to help with the asparagus harvest in particular.
