Bundesliga television rights auction begins

The auction for the next round of Bundesliga television rights begins Monday with the German football league (DFL) expecting to raise billions of dollars from the bidding which runs to June 17.

The league earns more than 80 per cent of its income through pay television broadcasters and streaming services with the last rights bringing 4.64 billion euros (5.23 billion dollars) over four years.

Pay television will bid for rights packages in the first week of the auction with free-to-air bids for separate rights following the week after for the seasons 2021/22 to 2024/25.

The result of the auction will be announced after a general meeting on June 22.
