Germany lifts travel warning for Norway

Berlin (dpa) – The German Foreign Office lifted its travel warning for Norway on Wednesday.

Prior to the decision, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry had published a lists of countries from which people could enter Norway from Wednesday, and Germany was among them.

The German Foreign Office said this removed the final hurdle for lifting its warning for Norway, one of the few still in place for a European country.

Germany lifted its travel warnings for most of Europe in mid-June following an unprecedented move banning all international travel at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

Unlike Germany, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces is not mandatory in Norway. The German travel advice noted this, while urging travellers to stick to social-distancing and hygiene guidelines while in the country.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, there have been around 9,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Norway and 253 deaths.

Germany’s official coronavirus caseload stands at around 200,000, with over 9,000 people confirmed to have died after contracting the virus.
