New German coronavirus case count lingers above the 1,000 mark

A resurgence in coronavirus cases in Germany entered its third day on Sunday as authorities reported another 24-hour period with more than 1,000 cases.

Health officials tallied 1,122 new coronavirus cases for Saturday, the third time they have done so in a row. Before this new spurt, Germany had not logged more than 1,000 cases a day since May 9.

The new figures mean Germany has documented 215,336 coronavirus cases within its borders. Thursday had seen 1,045 new cases while Friday’s tally came in at 1,147. The country’s numbers have been on the upswing since the end of July.

The Robert Koch Institute, the country’s infectious disease authority, additionally reported that German has experienced 9,195 deaths since the coronavirus outbreak. Additionally, 196,400 people have reportedly recovered from infection.
