Six German soldiers in Iraq test positive for coronavirus

Six German soldiers deployed with the Bundeswehr in northern Iraq have caught the novel coronavirus, the military confirmed in a letter to parliamentary representatives seen by dpa.

The soldiers have been isolated and placed in separate accommodations, the Joint Operations Command wrote.

The soldiers are to be flown back to Germany “soon,” it added. Until then, they are to be monitored by medical personnel on site in Erbil.

The people with whom the soldiers have come into contact were also tested.

The Bundeswehr contingent in northern Iraq is part of the international military coalition fighting against Islamic State.
