RB Leipzig to start pre-season training on Tuesday after CL exit

RB Leipzig players will only have a short break after their Champions League semi-final exit as coach Julian Nagelsmann will gather the team again for pre-season training from Tuesday onwards.

Leipzig confirmed the date on Wednesday before returning home from Lisbon in the wake of the previous night’s 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

The first 2020-21 game is set for the second weekend of September, a first-round German cup date at second division Nuremberg. The following weekend sees them play Mainz in the Bundesliga season opening round.

“The next season will be exhausting and long,” Nagelsmann said.

Leipzig had some three weeks off after finishing the past domestic season in late June before gathering again ahead of the completion of the Champions League in which they last week beat Atletico Madrid to make the semis.

The whole domestic and international football calendar had to be revamped because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Nagelsmann will also miss his national team players during the pre-season because Nations League games have been scheduled for early September.
