Hanover, Germany (dpa) – Werder Bremen have reached a coronavirus compromise with the football federations of Kosovo and the Netherlands over the use of players Milot Rashica and Tahith Chong in the coming international break.
“We have now reached a compromise with the national associations,” said sporting director Frank Baumann on Monday.
“Both players will travel only to matches that do not take place in high-risk areas. That means that they will not have to quarantine afterwards and will therefore be available to us immediately.”
Rashica is nominated for the Kosavo senior side for games against Moldova, played in Italy’s Parma, and then at home to Greece in Pristina. But the 24-year-old will not play the second match.
Newcomer Chong has been selected for the Dutch under-21 side but will skip a friendly away to Belarus and play only on September 8 against Norway.
Bremen had previously not wanted to release their players as entry into high-risk areas in terms of the coronavirus would have resulted in them having to quarantine on return.
Instead they will now be available to Bremen for their German Cup first round match away to Carl Zeiss Jena on September 12.
