Hoeness: Bayern could miss out 50 to 60 million euros without fans

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness believes the club will take a big financial hit by the absence of fans in the stadium during the coronavirus crisis.

“As long as we don’t have fans in the stadium Bayern also miss out 50 to 60 million euros (59.2 to 71 million dollars),” Hoeness said in a football talk show of broadcasters Sport1.

Hoeness said that two seasons without fans in home games are also “not easy” for Bayern, even though the Germany’s wealthiest club “would not be broke.”

Hoeness believes Bayern will not top Leroy Sane’s transfer in the current transfer window. The Germany winger moved from Manchester City to the Champions League winners for an estimated 50 million euros.

Former club president Hoeness said Bayern don’t have pressure to sign new players, despite a congested fixtures list.

“After three titles it’s possible to try out new things,” Hoeness said, referring to young talents such as Dutch teenager Joshua Zirkzee, who played and scored for the first team last season.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic the transfer window remains open until October 5 this year. Spaniards Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez may leave, and David Alaba is yet to renew his contract beyond 2021.
