Boateng wants Bayern to win Champions League again with a young squad

Jerome Boateng wants his club Bayern Munich to defend all titles after their quintuple triumph including the Champions League in the past months, he told Kicker magazine on Monday.

Since its introduction in 1992 only Real Madrid manage to win the continental trophy in consecutive years, 2017 and 2018.

“Why shouldn’t we try to create a new era in the Champions League with our young squad?” the defender Boateng said.

“This won’t be easy, but with the exception of 2019 we have always come very far in the competition,” he said, referring to last year’s last 16 exit against Liverpool.

“I don’t see many who can keep up with our quality.”

Boateng said Bayern are strong in every aspect of the team, and “this is not common in Europe.”

At the same level he sees only Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and possibly Juventus.

“At Juventus you have to see how they manage it, they could be part of it,” Boateng said.

Apart from the Champions League, Bayern also won the Bundesliga, German Cup and the European and German Super Cup trophies.

Boateng, who has a contract with Bayern until June 2021, wants to play for “as long as possible” but is not sure what he wants to do once he ends his professional career.

“I don’t really want to be a coach, it’s as stressful as a player. I will want to enjoy more time with my family,” Boateng said.
