Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra holds unusual concert in open-top bus

Leipzig, Germany (dpa) – The orchestra of the Gewandhaus concert hall in the eastern German city Leipzig launched an unusual concert series on Saturday.

Four horn players delivered renditions of Christmas carols from a rented open-top double-decker sightseeing bus in public spaces and care facilities in Leipzig.

“The musicians brought a little festive atmosphere to the people in six locations,” said the spokesman for the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Dirk Steiner.

“Due to the cold, the musicians can only play up to six pieces on the open upper deck of the bus,” Steiner explained.

Further performances are planned for December 5, 12 and 19. The locations are to be published beforehand on the website of the Gewandhaus Orchestra.
