Sporting director Zorc demands considerable improvement from Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has demanded more from the club’s players on the return from the winter break to ensure they can salvage a disappointing campaign so far.

“None of us here are happy with fifth place,” Dortmund said in an interview published by the club on Friday. “The Champions League qualification is always our goal and we have to reach that at the end of the season.”

Dortmund have lost their last three home games and on Sunday host Wolfsburg, the side sitting in the fourth and final of the Bundesliga’s Champions League spots.

“We have lost too many games at home,” said Zorc. “I expect the team to get considerably better. Overall we are not happy with the last half year in the league.

Edin Terzic, interim coach after the dismissal of Lucien Favre, could bring “new input” to the team, said Zorc, especially with no midweek games coming up.
