Bayern defender Boateng will miss Club World Cup final

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng will miss the FIFA Club World Cup final against Tigres UANL of Mexico on Thursday due to personal reasons.

Coach Hansi Flick confirmed during a news conference the player will return to Munich but without giving further details.

Besides Boateng, midfielders Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez also won’t be available for the game after both tested positive for coronavirus and didn’t travel to Qatar.

On the final preparations for the game, Flick said they have an analysis team watching Tigres.

“We have prepared as intensively for Tigres as we would any other game. We hope we have drawn the right conclusions from our preparation,” the coach said.

“I saw Tigres in the semi-final and was really impressed by how they played. They play with high intensity and have lots of quality on the wings. The will make it a difficult game for all of us,” Flick added.

Tigres beat Copa Libertadores champion Palmeiras of Brazil 1-0 to reach the final, while Bayern won 2-0 over Al Ahly of Egypt.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer repeated the motto of the past days, saying the team is “really excited” for the game.

“We’re all really excited for the final against Tigres. Everyone has played their part. It would be a great record,” Neuer said.
