Longest-serving Bundesliga coach Streich extends deal with Freiburg

Coach Christian Streich has extended his contract with Freiburg, the Bundesliga club said on Thursday. The longest-serving coach in the Bundesliga will enter his ninth season as the team’s head coach starting this summer.

Freiburg didn’t give details about the length of the new contract. However, so far, Streich has usually signed one-year deals. His original contract would have expired at the end of this season.

“I’m happy with the recognition and trust that has been placed in our work. The cooperation includes all the prerequisites that are important to continue on the path we have chosen,” Streich said.

Before taking the head coach position from Marcus Sorg in December 2011, Streich worked with the under-19 squad between 1995 and 2007 before becoming an assistant at the professional team.

“We continue to feel a great wish for the common path. The cooperation is simply constructive,” sporting director Jochen Saier said.
