Mueller thankful for good wishes in coronavirus recovery

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Mueller has spoken for the first time since testing positive for the coronavirus, saying he was “so far okay” and grateful for good wishes he had received.

“The last days were very turbulent,” the 31-year-old Mueller said in an Instagram video.

Mueller tested positive during the Club World Cup in Qatar last week and returned by special flight to Germany, where he is now isolating at home in Munich.

“We’re making the best of it,” he said.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick said on Sunday he had spoken with Mueller by phone and hoped his player could return to the squad quickly though will be unavailable for coming Bundesliga games against Arminia Bielefeld on Monday and Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

The Champions League last 16 match with Lazio on February 23, however, could be a possibility.

“He is a very important player for us,” said Flick. “We hope that he gets his strength back quickly and is available for the team.”
