KARACHI- (HRNW) Karachi Friends Veterans CC dislodged tournament favourite AO Veterans by eight wickets to register a slot in the final encounter. Former Test legspinner, Danish Kaneria fetched top three scalps for just 12 run to get the man of the match award. Meanwhile the former joint secretary of Karachi City Cricket Association termed Axis Cricket Club a breath of fresh air.
In the first semi final of the Virtual Axis Ramazan Festival T20 night cricket tournament, AO veterans were put in to bat by the Karachi Friends Veterans CC to later restrict them to a modest 129-7 in the allotted span of 20 overs. The top batting brass of AO veterans were mesmerised by Test legspinner Danish Kaneria who bagged three wickets for just 12 runs in his four overs with one maiden to break the back of AO Veterans. Iftikhar Ali was top run getter for AO Veterans with 39, Irfan Faizan (36) & Shah Faisal (21) were the other prominent batsmen.
In reply, Karachi Friends Veterans Cricket Club’s beginning was not impressive either as they lost two wickets for 59 runs however unbeaten 70-run partnership between MPA Abbas Jaffery (33*) and Mohammad Irfan (61*) propelled their team to victory and also the final match of the event. Danish Kaneria was declared the man of the matche.
The Guest of Honour, Jameel Ahmed, former joint secretary, Karachi City Cricket Association and renowned sports organiser, said that club level is the base and actual strength of cricket and Axis Cricket club, he hoped, will turned out to be the breath of fresh air.
In the end, Khwaja Ahmed Mustaqeem, the President, Axis Cricket Club presented the memento to Jameel Ahmed.
