A Jewish man was insulted and beaten by three unknown assailants in Berlin late Friday, police said.

The 41-year-old, who was wearing a kippah head-covering, was punched in the face and had anti-Semitic slurs yelled at him by the men, police said on Saturday.

The victim crashed through a shop window during the attack in Berlin’s Schoeneberg district.

The three assailants fled the scene.

The victim reported his assault to police and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Protests cropped up in German cities during this month’s fighting between Hamas militants and Israel.

Some rallies became anti-Israel and anti-Semitic, with Israeli flags burned and hostile slogans about Jewish people chanted. Demonstrations also took place in front of synagogues

Yet even before the latest flare-up in violence between the Israelis and Palestinians, worries were growing about the increasing number of anti-Semitic incidents in Germany, most of them motivated by right-wing extremism.
