NADRA cannot be substitute to court of law: Zia Awan

Karachi (HRNW)- Issuance of succession certificates by National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) would further complicate the issue instead of resolving it, as NADRA cannot be a substitute of a court of law, said Zia Ahmed Awan, ASC, former member of Pakistan Bar Council and Sindh Bar Council, addressing a general body meeting of Karachi Bar Association here in Bar Room.

A large number of lawyers attended the meeting, which was also addressed by the KBA officer-bearers and senior lawyers.

Zia Ahmed Awan said this scheme would not be fully beneficial for citizens.

He said many rural families do not register the names of their daughters or get their birth certificates.

He said many people possess properties, assets and vehicles that are not registered in their name.

He said a clerk of NADRA can never be a substitute of a judge.

Zia Awan suggested that in every district, the concerned District and Sessions judge should appoint at least one judge to exclusively deal with the succession matters so that such cases are disposed of soon.

He further suggested that the government should talk with the bodies of lawyers on this issue.

He also suggested that the Bar Associations should challenge this decision in courts.

He said that MNA Qadir Mandokhail and Senator Shahadat Awan have already promised with him that they would raise this issue in the national assembly and senate, respectively.
