Eintracht Frankfurt without captain Rode in Dortmund season-opener

Eintracht Frankfurt will be without captain Sebastian Rode when they open their Bundesliga season at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday with the midfielder ruled out through injury.

“Sebastian Rode’s knee has had a reaction so he won’t be able to play tomorrow,” coach Oliver Glasner said Friday.

Stefan Ilsanker or Makoto Hasebe could deputize with Glasner having an otherwise full squad to choose from a week after suffering a shock first round exit in the German Cup to lower league Waldhof Mannheim last weekend.

“We talked through the cup defeat in no uncertain terms and now we’ve put it behind us,” said Glasner.

“We said: ‘let’s move on to Borussia Dortmund!’ We need to be relaxed but also brave, confident, bullish and stick to our game plan.

“What’s important is for us to show physical presence in the duels in Dortmund.

“We need to control the rhythm and use the spaces that open up to us. It’ll be a completely different game from the one in Mannheim.”

Glasner also said recent signing Jens Petter Hauge could be involved having made a good impression despite missing much of pre-season.
