Minar-e-Pakistan case: Officers removed, 24 suspects identified

Lahore (HRNW) The woman Tiktoker who was assaulted by 400 men at Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan has bruises and 13 other marks of torture on her body, a medical report has confirmed. Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has removed three senior police officials and suspended two others over ‘negligence’ as the police continue to raid different parts of the city to detain suspects.

With the latest arrests on Friday, the number of suspects detained in connection with the incident topped 100. The Police and Nadra officials have identified at least 24 of the suspects to be the real culprits after their details matched with the geofencing data and the video which went viral following the shocking incident of sexual harassment on August 14.

The victim was brought to a hospital in Lahore on Thursday for medico-legal examination. The report came out on Friday and confirmed that the woman was tortured. She has bruises on her neck, chest, and hands as well as 13 clear torture marks on her body, the report says. The report says there was no indication of rape.

The woman was mobbed and groped by around 400 men on August 14 and according to some reports, her ordeal continued for three hours.

Chief Minister Buzdar was briefed on the incident during a high-level meeting on Friday. He ordered the removal and suspension of five officers after being told about the police’s delayed response.

Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Sajid Kiyani, SSP Operations Syed Nadeem, and Additional SP operation Hassan Jahangir have been removed from their position.

The SDPO Badami Bagh and SHO Lari Ada have been suspended for their delayed response to the complaint filed by the survivor.

The Greater Iqbal Park project director and deputy director have also been suspended.

Buzdar said the police demonstrated laziness and this had disappointed the people who expect the police to help them.
